NFL Week 8 Recap | Sports

We’re half way through the NFL season and there are many storylines as expected. Following an off season dominated by talk of their bounty scandal, which resulted in the first ever suspension of a coach, the Saints have had the worst defense in NFL history, and have gotten off to a 2-5 start. Peyton Manning went to Denver before the season started as the biggest free agent signing in league history, and has his Broncos sitting atop their division, and seemingly have it wrapped up with half the season yet to go. There’s also the Atlanta Falcons, who went in to Philly this past Sunday, and beat the Michael Vick led Eagles, to remain the leagues lone undefeated team at 7-0. Week 9 kicks off tonight with Kansas City at division rival San Diego. Below are the scores from Week 8.

Week 8 scores: Thurs 10/25: TB 36 @ MIN 17| Sun 10/28: CAR 22 @ CHI 23| SD 6 @ CLE 7| SEA 24 @ DET 28| JAX 15 @ GB 24| IND 19 @ TEN 13| NE 45 vs STL 7 (played in London)| MIA 30 @ NYJ 9| ATL 30 @ PHI 17| WAS 12 @ PIT 27| OAK 26 @ KC 16| NYG 29 @ DAL 24| NO 14 @ DEN 34| Mon 10/29: SF 24 @ ARI 3|

NFL Week 5 Recap | Sports

The biggest story week 5 in the NFL was the New Orlean Saints picking up their first win of the season, on Sunday night against the San Diego Chargers. New Orleans QB Drew Brees broke the record for consecutive games with a passing TD (48) with a 40 yd strike to Devrey Henderson with 2:58 left in the first quarter. The record was previously held by the incomparable Johnny Unitas and stood for 52 years. He broke this record against the team who let him go 4 years ago after a shoulder injury. The Saints bounty scandal, dominated the NFL headlines throughout the offseason, and earned head coach Sean Payton an unprecedented year-long suspension. Payton was able to attend this game for the monumental achievement. Other week 5 highlights include the Falcons and Texans moving to 5-0 and the Cardinals falling from the ranks of the undefeated with a 17-3 lost to the Stl Rams last Thursday. Week 6 kicks off tonight with the Steelers at the Titans. Week 5 scores are below.

NFL Week 4 Recap | Sports

After Week 3’s Monday Night Debacle in Seattle with the replacement officials, a deal was struck to bring the professional refs back for Week 4’s Thursday Night game in Baltimore. The Ravens took on the winless Browns at home and hung on to win 23-16 behind a strong night from Baltimore QB Joe Flacco. The most surprising story line at the quarter mark of the season is the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals improved to 4-0 with a 24-21 OT win against the Miami Dolphins after a TD pass on 4th and 10. Tonight the Cardinals look to improve to 5-0 for the first time since 1974. Below are Week 4’s score as the 2nd quarter of the season kicks off tonight.

Scores:  Thurs 9/27: CLE 16 @ BAL 23| Sun 9/30: CAR 28 @ ATL 30|NE 52 @ BUF 28|

NFL Week 3 Recap | Sports

The third week of the 2012-13 NFL season was full of upsets and games that came down to the wire, but none drew more attention than the controversial ending to the Packers and Seahawks game on Monday night. With 8 seconds left in the game, and the Seahawks trailing 12-7, Seattle QB Russell Wilson heaved a Hail Mary to the end zone. It appeared as if it was intercepted by the Packers MD Jennings, but Seahawks receiver Golden Tate also got a hand on the ball and a fight for possession ensued. Two officials ran up and one official signaled touchdown, while the other signaled touchback meaning the game was over. After review, the play was deemed a simultaneous possession which goes to the offense, giving the Seahawks a 14-12 win, in what is the most bizarre finish to a game that I have ever witnessed. This caused an uproar around the nation as fans, players, coaches, and everyone involved in football seem to be fed up with the replacement referees who appear to be unprepared to officiate at this level. Even President Obama chimed in on twitter saying, to paraphrase, that everyone is hoping for an end to the labor dispute between the NFL and its officials. The league and officials met today, but no resolution has been met yet. After this game’s finish, none of the other games seem worth mentioning in any detail other than the scores below.

Scores:  Thurs 9/20: NYG 36 @ CAR 7| Sun 9/23:  STL 6 @ CHI 23|BUF 24 @ CLE 14|
                          TB 10 @ DAL 16| NYJ 23 @ MIA 20| SF 13 @ MIN 24| KC 27 @ NO 24|

NFL Week 2 Recap | Sports

The second week of the 2012-13 NFL season ended with Peyton Manning and the Broncos losing on Monday Night Football to the Matt Ryan lead Falcons in Atlanta. Manning threw three interceptions in the first quarter and the Broncos trailed for most of the game before losing 27-21. Manning was 24-37, 241 yds, 1 td and the 3 Interceptions. Matt Ryan was 24-36, 219 yds, 2 tds in the win. Another big game was the Ravens traveling to Philly to take on the Vick led Eagles. Both teams are considered potential SuperBowl  contenders, and were looking to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Eagles won 24-23 on a 1yd TD run by Vick with under 2 mins to go. Other notable games included the Bears losing to the Packers 23-10 on Thursday night, and the Cardinals beating the Patriots 20-18 in New England.

NFL Week 1 Recap | Sports

The NFL Season is upon us! Somewhat of an unofficial holiday here in the states, Opening Week provided plenty of highlights and thrills, but the play of Redskins rookie QB Robert Griffin III, was most captivating. Five rookie QBs started Sunday, the most ever on an opening day, but Griffin was the only one that was able to secure a win. He was 19-26 for 323 yards, and 2 Touchdowns, even more impressive was the fact that he did this on the road against a team, the New Orleans Saints, that didn’t lose any home games last season. Although it’s just one game Redskin fans have to be excited. Another huge story line was the return of the only man to win 4 NFL MVP awards, Peyton Manning. After a season off due to a neck injury, being cut by the Colts after 14 years in Indy, and relocating to Denver, Manning was able to lead the Broncos to victory against the Steelers. He was 19-26 with 253 yards and 2 Touchdowns.
